This dataset reproduces the food-item taxonomy from Nigeria's National Living Standards Survey (NLSS 2018/2019), as published by the National Bureau of Statistics. It lists the food categories and individual items used to classify household food consumption — from grains and flours through to other food groups — organised by group code, group name, and item.
Important: this is a classification reference, not a numeric expenditure dataset. The source file supplied by NBS contained the food-item labels only, with no populated spending figures. In keeping with a real-values-only policy, no monetary numbers were added. What you get is the verified, official structure for how food consumption is categorised in Nigeria's national survey.
Use it to align your own product, sales, or basket data with the standard national categories, so results are comparable to official statistics and easy to explain to partners, lenders, or regulators.
